The registration of a business name with the Department of Trade and Industry, required for sole proprietors in the Philippines. It gives the owner the legal right to use a chosen business name within a certain territorial scope, whether barangay, city, regional, or national. Registration can be done online through the DTI's Business Name Registration System for a fee, and the certificate is usually valid for several years before renewal. Partnerships and corporations register instead with the SEC. DTI registration is often a first step before securing local permits. Fees and validity are subject to the latest rules/guidelines.
