TIN (Tax Identification Number)

Finance

A unique number issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to identify a taxpayer, whether an individual, employee, self-employed person, or business. Every person earning income in the Philippines is required to have one, and it is used for filing taxes, employment, opening some accounts, and many government transactions. A person should have only one TIN for life; having multiple TINs is prohibited and penalized. Employers often help new hires get a TIN. Application processes and requirements are subject to the latest rules/guidelines.
