Nag-start ako ng trabaho nung April this year. Tama ba na buong 13th month makukuha ko this December o prorated lang? Tapos taxable ba to? Nalilito ako sa computation.

Prorated yan kasi hindi ka buong taon nag-work. Ang formula ng 13th month: total basic salary earned for the year divided by 12. Kaya kung April ka nag-start, yung mga buwan na nag-work ka lang ang kasama. Halimbawa 20k basic ka, April to December yun 9 months, so 20k x 9 = 180k, divided by 12 = 15,000 ang 13th month mo. Take note BASIC salary lang, hindi kasama OT, allowances, at holiday pay sa computation. Sa tax: exempted ang 13th month at other benefits hanggang 90,000 pesos. Pag lumagpas ka sa 90k combined ng bonuses, dun lang may tax yung excess. Deadline ng release non or before Dec 24 per law. Kung hindi ka binigyan, pwede ka mag-file sa DOLE.

Naranasan ko yang prorated. Nag-start ako August, akala ko full 13th, yun pala 5 months lang na-compute. Nadismaya ako kasi may plano na ako sa pera. Lesson: wag mo asahan yung buo pag hindi ka buong taon. Compute mo agad para may expectation ka.

Reminder lang: yung 13th month iba sa Christmas bonus. Yung 13th month required by law, yung bonus gift lang ng company (optional). Minsan pinagsasama ng employer para mukhang malaki, pero technically dapat magkaiba. Check mo payslip mo pag December.

Dagdag ko lang, mandatory yan sa lahat ng rank-and-file employees regardless kung private company, kahit contractual ka basta nakapag-render ka ng at least 1 month. Wag kang matakot singilin. Yung iba akala kung probationary ka hindi entitled, mali yun, entitled ka pa rin prorated.
